Plumbing repairs and installations in Enfield
Plumbing enquiries for Enfield Town, Ponders End, Enfield Lock and nearby streets, from interwar semis and loft conversions to flats and former industrial sites.
What kinds of home are there in Enfield?
Enfield is a London borough with a very mixed housing stock. Around Enfield Town and towards Forty Hill stand older houses, some very large, with conservation areas that protect their character. Interwar semis and terraces dominate many of the streets between, and there are postwar estates and blocks of flats. Further east, Ponders End and Enfield Lock include former industrial land that now holds flats and newer housing.
What do loft conversions and extensions mean for plumbing?
In a lot of Enfield's interwar semis, the loft has been converted and a rear extension built. When a loft tank is taken out, the plumbing is re-routed, and a new bathroom or en suite has to tie into existing waste and supply pipes. Water pressure at the top of the house can then be disappointing.
Say what building work has been done and whether the house has a cylinder or a combination boiler.
What if I live in a flat?
Enfield has many purpose-built blocks and conversions. Be clear whether a problem is inside your flat or in shared pipework. A leak coming through your ceiling may start in a neighbour's property, and a communal pipe is usually the responsibility of the freeholder or managing agent. Report the leak to them as well as arranging any repair to what is yours.

Are the older houses a different job?
The large Victorian and Edwardian homes around the town centre and Forty Hill often have several bathrooms, long pipe runs and original features. The pipework may have been patched many times, and some of the oldest may still contain a length of lead. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with the council before altering visible fittings.
What about the east of the borough?
Closer to the Lee Valley, some newer homes were built on land once used for industry, and many of them have mains pressure systems with unvented cylinders. If you have one, it needs a suitably qualified installer for any work to the cylinder itself, and the paperwork from the original installation is worth keeping.
